HZ is located in the South-West of the Netherlands. With a population of some 4,800 national and international students we are a small university with a personal approach. As a university of applied sciences we have positioned ourselves as experts in Water, Energy and Vitality. Our programmes are fully in line with these spearheads. Since 2011 HZ has been in the top three of Dutch multidisciplinary universities of applied sciences.

As a university of applied sciences we focus on practice-based education and research opportunities. Our close cooperation with the business world, various research centres and our global network of partner universities is of paramount importance.

HZ University of Applied Sciences has research groups focusing on aquaculture and blue biotechnology. Research lines include:

• New and innovative production methods
• Optimizing production management
• Quality of seafood products
• Bioactive compounds from aquaculture products and their utilization
• Valorization of side and process streams from aquaculture

Research activities are performed in the frame of European or National funded projects.
